SHAW BINARY SYSTEMS, INC. (SBSI) TO HELP PREPARE COMPUTERS AND SERVERS FOR DAYLIGHT SAVINGS TIME

San Diego, California (January 1, 2007) – Shaw Binary Systems, Inc. (SBSI) announced today the completion of an investigation the company begun due to this years earlier daylight savings time (DTS). In 2005, the U.S. Congress passed the U.S. Energy Policy Act to revise the DTS schedule. DTS used to start on the first Sunday in April and end on the last Sunday in October. Effective this year, the new schedule has DST starting three weeks earlier on March 11th and ending one week later on November 4th.

The revised schedule is intended to decrease the amount of energy being consumed in fall and spring. However, the change also bring an unforeseen problem, how the shift will effect technology. The internal clocks in computers and servers are set to update to DST automatically, but since DST is no longer occurring on the old schedules, all systems will need to be updated to reflect the revised schedule.

All systems local and nationwide, including all computers, work stations and servers are affected by the changes and need updating. How the U.S. Energy Policy Act will impact the nationwide systems is still being determined, although SBSI has concluded their investigation for updating customer systems.

Due to the variety of operating systems and programs SBSI clients utilize in the work place, each workstation and server needs to be inspected and the specific fix applied. For example, on systems running Windows 2000, the latest service pack from Microsoft will need to be installed on all machines in the environment.

If you are unsure if your company is DST compatible, please contact a SBSI representative at (619) 276-5244.
