Search Engines Search To Be An All-Access Pass
By: Lisa McDough

The Race to be the World’s Top Search Engine Gets Serious

Google. Google. Google. It seems that everyone has Google on the brain. The name of the mega search engine is even being used as a verb. Need a recipe for pumpkin pie? Just Google it!

As Google continues to add more and more services to their roster, like Google Print and Google Earth, their competitors are struggling to keep up. However, some competitors, like Yahoo, are trying. Yahoo, a search engine who has five years experience on Google, is taking on the challenge and trying to stay relevant in a Google-centric world.

Yahoo's main components have long been:
a search engine
Yahoo Mail
Yahoo Instant Messenger
Music
Shopping
Finance

Recently, Yahoo has added several services, including:
Fare Chase
Yahoo Autos
Hot Jobs

More is in the works. Most notably, Yahoo is developing a tool for creating and publishing pod casts. Yahoo already has a pod cast search engine www.podcasts.yahoo.com. A development tool, though, will make pod casting more user friendly so you don't have to be a techie to participate.
